1 Corinthians 14:26-40 (ESV)
Key Verse: 14:33a
First, for the strengthening of the church (26-28). God gave an abundance of gifts to the Corinthian church so that they might worship him. But when they came together for the worship service there was no order. Everyone had a prayer or a hymn or a tongue, but the purpose of the worship service was missing. God gave all of his gifts so that they may be used for the strengthening of the church. Singing hymns and praying and teaching the word of God are all valuable parts of the worship service, but all things should be done in an orderly way, to worship God and build up the church.
Second, everything in a fitting and orderly way (29-40). The church in Corinth was blessed with many who were capable of delivering messages, but they didn't do so in turn, and they sometimes spoke without listening, or in a way that was inappropriate. Their chaotic worship was not in keeping with the nature of God. He is not a God of disorder, but of peace. Therefore our worship should be done in a fitting and orderly way, to honor our God who is holy.
Prayer: Prayer: Lord, you are the God of peace. Bless our worship services to honor you.
One Word: Worship God in a fitting way
