The Gospel I Preached to You

Date: Oct. 25, 2015

Passage

1 Corinthians 15:1-11  (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 15:3-4

First, as of first importance (1-8). Paul had many things to say to the Corinthian church, but all hinged on the immutable truth of the gospel. Now Paul reminded them of the gospel they first believed, which is the foundation of Christian life. It is of first importance. Christ died for our sins, freeing us from the power of sin. He was buried. Then the one who died and was buried was raised. It is the perfect testimony of our God, who has declared victory over sin and death. Finally, Christ appeared. His appearance to the early apostles made each of them new. It is the appearance of the holy God in this world. When Christ appears to us in the gospel, sinners have life. We are made new.

Second by the grace of God (9-11). How could Paul, the one who persecuted the church of God so vehemently, ever be an apostle of Jesus? God ruled him solely by his grace. God appeared to Paul in the truth of his sovereign grace. Paul is but one shining example of God revealed in this world. This is God's hope in the gospel for sinners.

Prayer: Prayer: Lord, thank you for your grace. Fulfill your gospel purpose in this sinner.

One Word: The gospel is of first importance
