Daily Bread

The Image of the Heavenly Man

Date: Oct. 28, 2015

Passage

1 Corinthians 15:35-49  (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 15:49

First, God gives it a body as he has determined (35- 44). There were those in the church at Corinth that had doubts about the resurrection based on their lack of understanding of how it could be. This is truly foolish. Resurrection is not the truth of this world, it is the truth of God. He has determined to give his people a resurrection body. There are so many splendid examples in God's creation of all different kinds of bodies. When this natural body is sown, the same God who created those will create a spiritual body for his own.

Second, so shall we bear the image of the heavenly man (45-49). We are all born of Adam, and we bear his image. Like Adam we are earthly, we are sinful, and we are perishing. Jesus is different. He is not the earthly man, but the heavenly man. He is not perishable, but is a life-giving spirit. He is the example of what God has prepared for those he loves. The Corinthian Christians could not comprehend what the resurrection body would be like. But Paul knew that just as surely as we have borne the image of the earthly man, so shall we bear the image of the glorious Lord Jesus.

Prayer: Prayer: Lord, thank you for the glorious hope to bear the image of Jesus.

One Word: Made new in the image of Jesus
