Daily Bread

He Gives Us the Victory

Date: Oct. 29, 2015

Passage

1 Corinthians 15:50-58  (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 15:57

First, victory through our Lord Jesus Christ (50-57). Flesh and blood cannot inherit God's kingdom. That means that we must all be changed. This will happen in an instant. Sometimes we live as if things will go on as they are forever. But there will come the day of the Lord. It is the day the gospel and all God's history looks forward to, when death is swallowed up in victory, when sin is completely vanquished. Then God's people will be changed, imperishable and immortal. It is truly God's victory in Christ, but the beautiful revelation of the character and nature of our God is that in all these things, he gives us the victory.

Second, therefore, let nothing move you (58). Those who live for themselves or for the present are easily swayed by the gentlest breeze. When we see only this life, we can't help but work only for ourselves. But this is a vain labor, for it always ends in death. Those who take root in the eternal gospel have a solid foundation and are not easily moved. When we taste the gospel victory, we offer ourselves fully for the one work that will always endure-the work of the Lord.

Prayer: Prayer: Lord, thank you for revealing your eternal majesty and beauty in the gospel. Make my life an offering for the work of the Lord.

One Word: Jesus gives victory
