Hope in the Lord and Keep His Way

Date: Dec. 2, 2015

Passage

Psalm 37:23-40  (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 37:34

First, the steps of the one who delights in him (23-33). Sometimes we stumble and despair in our weakness. But we must know that God upholds us in his hand. David sometimes stumbled in his weakness. But as he grew older, he found one thing: the Lord had never forsaken the righteous. The Lord loves us and upholds us even in our weakness. He enables us to give generously and turn from evil and do good. What a blessed life it is to live as his people! "The law of their God is in their hearts; their feet do not slip" (31).

Second, keep his way (34-40). Two ways are mentioned. The way of the wicked and of the righteous. David observed the wicked. They seemed to flourish like a native tree, but they soon passed and were no more. The wicked has no future (38). But the righteous are those who hope in the Lord and keep his way. They have hope to be exalted to inherit the land. David's confession is ours in verse 39-40, "The salvation of the righteous comes from the Lord; he is their stronghold in times of trouble. He helps them and delivers them; he delivers them from the wicked, because they take refuge in him" Amen!

Prayer: Lord, I hope in you alone and keep your way.

One Word: Do his will.
