Hope in God Alone

Date: Dec. 4, 2015

Passage

Psalm 39:1-13  (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 39:7

Frist, I will put a muzzle on my mouth (1-6). David suffered from the transgressions he committed. But he made his mind not to complain against God before the wicked. He did not want to sin by saying something, so he decided to muzzle his mouth and say nothing. But fire burned in his heart, and finally he came before the Lord to ask about the end of his life. Would he continue to suffer all the rest of his days? As he kept asking and praying, he realized that in the light of eternity, life is but a breath (5).

Second, my hope is in God (7-13). Through suffering he realized that men who strive to heap up wealth do not know who will get it. The only hope that a man can have is hope in God alone. Now he prayed for saving him from his transgressions and punishment. There is no hope in a short life but a new life in the grace of forgiveness. He saves us when we come to him and he restores his joy of life, the joy that lasts in eternity in the Lord. The times of sufferings are the times of tasting his amazing grace.

Prayer: Lord, let me find my hope of salvation in the Lord.
