Daily Bread

Jesus, the Horn of Salvation

Date: Dec. 24, 2015

Passage

Luke 1:67-79  (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 1:69

First, he has come to rescue us (67-75). When Elizabeth gave birth to John, Zechariah's first word was not about his son but to praise God and the messiah. He saw the Lord's coming to redeem his people as the horn of salvation. The horn symbolizes power and strength. Satan has 10 horns. We have no horn. But God sent the mighty horn of salvation, Jesus. He crushed Satan's head on the cross. He saved us from sin, death and Satan. We can now serve God without fear but with holiness and righteousness all the days of our life.

Second, the rising sun (76-79). Zechariah shortly mentioned that John would go before the Messiah to give the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins. But Jesus is the tender sun who gives us life by shining on us who live in the darkness and guiding our feet to the path of peace. Jesus is the ever rising sun, growing in power and strength to shine throughout the whole world (Dan 2:35, 44).

Prayer: Prayer: Praise Jesus who is our horn of salvation and the rising sun to guide us to peace.

One Word: Jesus, the rising sun!
