Luke 2:1-20 (ESV)

Luke 2:1-20 (ESV)
Key Verse: 2:11
Frist, Caesar versus Jesus (1-7). At that time Caesar Augustus was the emperor of Rome governing the whole world. He ordered a sudden census and everyone had to go to their own town to register regardless of their human situations. Joseph with Mary in her full pregnancy also had to go to Bethlehem and laid their first son in a manger. How pitiful they looked as a helpless and powerless couple! But the Sovereign God was in control even using Caesar so that Jesus, the Messiah should be born in Bethlehem according to his promise.
Second, good news of great joy (8-20). The angel gave the shepherds good news of great joy for all the people saying, "Today a Savior has been born to you! He is the Messiah, the Lord!" But the sign would look very insignificant, a baby in a manger. But this is God's way of salvation to begin small as a mustard seed. The shepherds were terrified yet they soon went, saw the promised Messiah and spread this good news to all.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for sending the Savior of the world as a baby in a manger. Let me spread this good news of great joy to all people.
One Word: A Savior has been born to us!
