Mark 3:20-35 (ESV)
Key Verse: 3:35
First, a house divided cannot stand (20-30) Jesus faced persecution from his family, thinking he was "out of his mind." He was persecuted by the teachers of the law, who claimed he was possessed by Beelzebul. Jesus rebuked the Jewish leaders, saying "how can Satan drive out Satan?" and, "a house divided against itself cannot stand." Jesus testified to the finger of God that was driving out Satan from this world (Lk 11:20). Because of Jesus, Satan cannot stand. His end has come! Jesus also warned the teachers of the law of the grave danger they were putting themselves in. In accusing Jesus of being possessed by the devil, they were blaspheming the Holy Spirit. They were committing an eternal sin.
Second, "Who are my mother and my brothers?" (31-35). Jesus' mothers and brothers arrived to take charge of him. When someone told Jesus they were there, he said, "Here are my mother and my brothers! Whoever does God's will is my brother and sister and mother." We have a spiritual family in God. Those who do God's will are our spiritual mother, father, sister or brother.
Prayer: Lord, Help me watch what I say and not blaspheme the Holy Spirit. Help me to be Jesus' brother, sister, or mother.
One Word: Be Jesus' brother or sister or mother
