Daily Bread

To Do Good and to Save Life

Date: Jan. 25, 2016

Passage

Mark 3:1-19  (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 3:4

First, Jesus heals a man with a shriveled hand (1-6). Jesus went into a synagogue on a Sabbath and a man with a shriveled hand was there. This man needed a shepherd. The religious leaders just used him to get to Jesus. But Jesus healed the man in front of everyone. Jesus became the shepherd for this man. And by teaching what was lawful on the Sabbath, he shepherded the religious leaders as well. But they didn't repent. Instead, the Pharisees went out and plotted with their enemies, the Herodians, how they might kill Jesus.

Second, Jesus appoints the Twelve to do good and to save lives (7-19). Jesus knew the Jewish religious leaders were not fit to be shepherds for the people. So, Jesus raised up the Twelve to go out and be shepherds for the shepherdless.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for Jesus who heals sickness and calls people to be with him. Help me to be with Jesus!

One Word: Jesus appointed twelve
