Mark 5:21-34 (ESV)
Key Verse: 5:34
And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.”
First, a man pleads for his daughter (21-24a). One of those in the crowd who came to Jesus at this time was a synagogue ruler named Jairus. He immediately fell at Jesus' feet and pleaded with Jesus to come and help his dying daughter. Such faith this man expressed in Jesus! There were no doubts. There were no "ifs" or "maybes". Jairus knew that Jesus brings healing, even life, even to those who have no earthly hope. Jesus responded to this man's beautiful faith and went with him.
Second, Jesus heals a woman from bleeding (24b-34). Many people were pressing around Jesus as he went. One was a woman who had been subject to chronic bleeding for 12 years. She went to Jesus and touched his cloak, thinking all she needed was to touch his cloak to be healed. Like Jairus, her faith was that Jesus' touch, even a secret one, would heal her. When she touched him, she was healed. Jesus knew what happened, and called her out to help her confess her faith. When she confessed, Jesus sent her away, in peace and freed from her suffering.
Prayer: Father, thank you so much for Jesus' healing of all kinds of sickness. Help us to come to him for healing.
One Word: Jesus frees us
