2 Corinthians 3:7-18 (ESV)
Key Verse: 3:18
First, the Spirit's ministry is more glorious (7-11).
Moses' ministry was glorious. It was based on the Ten Commandments which God himself had given to the people. The Israelites could not look upon Moses' face because it shone with God's glory. Though glorious, this ministry could only result in death and condemnation. In contrast, the ministry of the Spirit, based on Jesus' death and resurrection, is much more glorious. It can give eternal life to sinners. The glory of the Spirit's ministry does not fade but is eternal.
Second, there is freedom in the Lord (12-17). When the Israelites heard Moses and the old covenant, a veil covered their hearts. Their minds became dull. They were slaves of sin and death under the Law. But when we turn to the Lord, the veil is taken away. We can see the surpassing glory of the gospel. We are free from slavery to the Law because we have the Holy Spirit. The Spirit also transforms us more and more into Jesus' image.
Prayer: Lord, nothing is more glorious than your gospel. Transform us more into the image of Jesus.
One Word: We have freedom in the Lord
