2 Corinthians 4:1-6 (ESV)
Key Verse: 4:6
First, setting forth the truth plainly (1-4). Criticism and discouragement were difficult for Paul to bear. However, Paul did not lose heart. He saw that his ministry was rooted in and the result of God's mercy. When others were tempted to use deceptive means to gain more followers, Paul stood firm. He proclaimed the truth plainly. Though some people may not have liked Paul's message, they could never accuse Paul of distorting or withholding God's word from them. People reject the gospel, not because there is something wrong with it, but because they are blinded by the god of this age.
First, "Let light shine out of darkness" (5-6). Paul preached Jesus Christ as Lord. He and his co-workers only said of themselves that they were servants of Christ. Paul, too, had once lived in spiritual darkness as a blasphemer. But God shined his light into Paul's heart. This light gave Paul the knowledge of God's glory in the face of Christ.
Prayer: Lord, please give us courage, faith and love to share your word plainly. May your light shine in and through us.
One Word: Shine Jesus' light into the darkness
Acts 8:26-40
Key Verse: 8:35
