Exodus 30:22-38 (ESV)
Key Verse: 30:29
First, you shall consecrate them (22-33). The anointing oil had to be a very special blends of myrrh, cinnamon, cane and cassia. It was a sacred anointing oil. It was used to consecrate the Tent of Meeting, the ark of the Testimony, the table, the lamp stand, the altar of incense, and all its utensils. It also consecrated Aaron and his descendants so that they might serve God. This all symbolizes the Holy Spirit that penetrates deep into the soul to enable the priest to carry out the priestly duty. Just as God anointed Jesus Christ and the early believers at the Pentecost.
Second, make a fragrant blend of incense (34-38). God also said to make a fragrant blend of incense. This symbolizes prayers that the priests offer to God constantly. It also reminds us of Jesus. The Magi brought frankincense, myrrh and gold to baby Jesus. It symbolizes Jesus as an intercessory priest as well as a prophet and a king.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for Jesus who is the anointed one, our high priest. Thank you for anointing us with your Holy Spirit for sacred service to you.
One Word: Anointed by the Lord
Acts 8:26-40
