Daily Bread

Now is the Time

Date: Apr. 19, 2016

Passage

2 Corinthians 6:1-13  (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 6:2b

First, servants of God (1-10). God provided reconciliation and salvation through the gospel. By his one-sided grace God made the believers to be his coworkers, as well as coworkers with each other. Paul encouraged the Corinthian Christians to treat this truth of reconciliation with the utmost urgency. "Now is the time...now is the day." He reminded them of how God worked through his servants. In all things God was revealing his grace and his favor. Paul urged them not to receive God's grace in vain, but to live as God's servants and seek his grace all the more. The time is now.

Second, open wide your hearts (11-13). Paul and his coworkers had spoken the gospel freely and opened their hearts widely to the Corinthians, as if they were called by God to receive his best love, grace and favor-even eternal salvation. What did Paul ask in exchange? He wanted the Corinthian believers to do likewise and open wide their hearts also. In this way they could embrace not only Paul, but God who sent him to serve them out of his abundant grace and favor.

Prayer: Prayer: Lord, thank you for your grace. Help me to live with an open and serving heart today.

One Word: A heart open to God
