2 Corinthians 6:14-7:1 (ESV)
Key Verse: 6:18b
First, what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? (14-18) Paul saw his ministry as one of reconciliation with God (5:17-20). The church is a new creation of God, and believers have received a new life. Paul urged the Corinthian believers to live up to their calling. They cannot live as they did, or worship as they did, and so dishonor God. They are the people of God, his sons and daughters. They are living testimonies of God's power and forgiveness, the fulfillment of his promises to clean the world of sin and reconcile men to himself. They have nothing to do with darkness or wickedness anymore.
Second, out of reverence for God (7:1). It is not legalism that compels us to be pure in this world. It is the deep acknowledgement of God's holy presence. It is reverence for him, the worship of God who makes us new at such a cost. We seek to know the perfect holiness of God who is revealing himself and his unique glory in each of us.
Prayer: Prayer: Lord, help me to seek you purely and worship you today, that I may learn the depths of your wisdom and glory.
One Word: Out of reverence for God
