Daily Bread

To Do What is Right

Date: Apr. 23, 2016

Passage

2 Corinthians 8:10-24  (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 8:21

First, the goal is equality (10-15). The Corinthians had started well in the matter of giving; now Paul encouraged them to complete it. It was not a matter of money, but of their willingness to give. Paul wanted them to recognize God's people in need when they experienced plenty. In this way they live as a part of the body of Christ, and they serve God the gracious giver as stewards of his gifts.

Second, to honor the Lord himself (16-24). Paul sent only the ones he trusted with collecting the offering. In this instance it included Titus. Paul took great pains to be transparent and to do what was right in the matter of money. He did this because he trusted Titus as a man who was an honor to Christ, and because offering is what we do to honor the Lord himself. Doing right is not about money; it is about honoring God and his Son with the gifts he has so abundantly given.

Prayer: Prayer: Lord, help me to be a good steward of your gifts and bring honor to you.

One Word: Do right; honor the Lord
