Leviticus 5:14-6:7 (ESV)
Key Verse: 6:7
And the priest shall make atonement for him before the LORD, and he shall be forgiven for any of the things that one may do and thereby become guilty.”
First, wrongdoing against and unfaithfulness to the Lord (5:14-19). The guilt offering was a mandatory offering also called the trespass offering and reparation offering since compensation or restitution was given. The guilt offering for atonement was a defectless ram plus 120% of the offense value, given to the priest. Unintentional sins mentioned here included misuse of God's holy things and violating God's commands.
Second, sins against neighbors (6:1-7). Other sins of unfaithfulness to the Lord included sins against neighbors: deceiving, stealing, cheating, lying, or swearing falsely. The sinner had to return the stolen item, plus 20% more, and give a ram to the priest for a guilt offering. In this way, the priest made atonement for them before the Lord, and they could be forgiven.
Prayer: Lord, how can I repay the debt I owe for my sins? Eternal thanks and praise be yours for providing a way for my guilt and sin to be forgiven through the blood of Jesus Christ. Help me to also make restitution to those I've hurt or taken from.
One Word: Not guilty by his mercy and provision
