Daily Bread

The Consecration of the Priests

Date: May. 11, 2016

Passage

Leviticus 8:1-36  (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 8:36

First, as the Lord commanded (1-17). This chapter repeats "as the Lord commanded Moses" many times, and details the consecration and ordination of Aaron and his sons as priests. The priests were washed. Aaron put on all the priestly garments. Moses anointed with oil the tabernacle, the altar and its utensils, the basin and stand, and Aaron's head to consecrate all these to serve the holy Lord. They offered a bull for the sin offering. The blood purified, consecrated and made atonement for the altar.

Second, they did everything the Lord commanded (18-36). Another ram was offered for ordination. Blood on the right ears, thumbs and toes expressed total dedication and purification of their whole body. Anointing oil and blood was sprinkled on them to consecrate them. Meat and bread from the ordination offerings was for the priests. They had to stay at the tent of meeting for seven days to complete their ordination, or they would die. They did everything the Lord commanded Moses.

Prayer: Lord, we offer ourselves as living sacrifices to you. Enable us to serve you in holiness and righteousness.

One Word: Consecrated to serve the holy God
