Leviticus 13:1-46 (ESV)
Key Verse: 13:46
First, unclean skin diseases (1-44). Defiling skin diseases made a person unclean, like a rash, swelling, boil, burn or sore. The priest was to examine these in detail. It could take a week or two to determine if the disease was healed or getting worse. Sores more than skin deep and white hair in them meant unclean. On the head, it was yellow hair or a reddish-white sore. Sometimes they had to shave their hair. Ritual cleanness was important at the tent of meeting and in the community of God's people. God's people must pursue cleanness before God. True cleanness to God is to have clean hands and a pure heart (Ps 24:4; 51:10; Mk 7:21; Mt 5:8). Christ's command and blood has power to cleanse us (Mt 8:3; Heb 9:14; 10:22).
Second, living outside the camp (45-46). An unclean person had to wear torn clothes, unkempt hair and cry out, "Unclean!" Above all, they lived alone, outside the camp, so the disease did not spread. Sin is actually the worst disease which must not spread. It must be dealt with seriously.
Prayer: Lord, sin makes me unclean. Wash and cleanse me by your command and the blood that flowed at Calvary.
One Word: Cleansed by the blood of Christ
