The Most High Will Establish a New Zion

Date: May. 31, 2016

Passage

Psalm 87:1-7  (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 87:5

First, The LORD loves Zion (1-3). Zion was the fortress city of Jerusalem which David conquered. He united the kingdom of Israel. God would use this phrase throughout the Bible to refer to his people, a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. He loves them so much, and established them for a great purpose, much greater than the nation of Israel.

Second, this one was born in Zion (4-7). Using future tense, the psalmist shares God's great plan for Zion: to record Gentile peoples who acknowledge him as his own, giving them a new birth certificate: "This one was born in Zion." Such people are so happy to be members of God's kingdom. They sing, "All my fountains are in you," not looking back. In Jesus Christ, we are given the right to be called children of God. Although from many nations, we are one: a royal priesthood and a holy nation. Although scattered now, one day Jesus will return, and this New Zion will be established. Come Lord Jesus!

Prayer: Thank you Father for counting me as yours through Jesus Christ. All my fountains are in you.

One Word: God will establish a new Zion
