Jeremiah 16: 1-21 (ESV)
Key Verse: 16:15
but ‘As the LORD lives who brought up the people of Israel out of the north country and out of all the countries where he had driven them.’ For I will bring them back to their own land that I gave to their fathers.
1. Jeremiah was a living message (1-13)
Jeremiah was to demonstrate God's message through his daily life. He was not to marry, go to a funeral or attend a celebration. People would ask him why he was not living a "normal" life. Then Jeremiah would deliver God's message to them.
2. He was given a deeper understanding (14-21)
Jeremiah needed daily strength to carry on. Crying out to God in prayer, he found refuge in God and God revealed his heart to him. The punishment was for a redemptive purpose. God was eventually going to bring back a remnant to restore the nation so that all nations will know that his name is the Lord. Jeremiah was given more understanding.
Prayer: Lord, work through me in any way you think best to reach the people. Make my life a living message so that people may know your name is the Lord. Grant me a deeper understanding of your plan.
One Word: God helps us to understand
