2 Kings 18:1-16 (ESV)
Key Verse: 18:5
He trusted in the LORD, the God of Israel, so that there was none like him among all the kings of Judah after him, nor among those who were before him.
1. There was no one like him (1-8)
Hezekiah began to reign in Judah just before the exile of Israel. He was not like Hoshea king of Israel, for he did his best to rid Judah of idol worship. When the bronze snake Moses had made became a snare Hezekiah broke even that into pieces. He trusted in the Lord and did not serve the king of Assyria. The Lord was with him.
2. Attack from Assyria (9-16)
As the nation of Israel was being overcome by Assyria and sent into exile, Judah was also now under attack. The powerful King Sennacherib captured cities in Judah and demanded tribute from Hezekiah. Hezekiah stripped the temple bare of all its gold and gave it to the Assyrian king. His trust in the Lord was now tested.
Prayer: Lord, help me to grow in all situations to trust in you.
One Word: Trust in the Lord
