1. The scheming (1-13).

Apparently, even patriarchs can have dysfunctional families. All the members of Isaac's family were struggling to get their own way. Isaac was determined to give his blessing to Esau and Esau was eager to get it, even though it wasn't God's will. Rebecca devised an elaborate hoax to trick Isaac into blessing Jacob.

2.the deception (14-29).

Jacob must have looked simply ridiculous. He went to his father with fake food made from goats instead of wild game, fake hair on his arms and neck. When Isaac asked him how he found the meal so quickly, Jacob responded, "The LORD your God gave me success." If only they had believed that God's way was the way of success! Whenever we practice deception, we are being just as foolish and ridiculous as they were. Isaac gave his blessing to Jacob, but God's blessing was yet to come.

Prayer: Prayer: Father, help us to trust your will and your way.

One Word: Only God's plan will succeed
