Who May Dwell in Lord's Tent?

Passage

Psalm 15:1-5 (ESV)

A Psalm of David.

1   O LORD, who shall sojourn in your tent?
    Who shall dwell on your holy hill?
2   He who walks blamelessly and does what is right
    and speaks truth in his heart;
3   who does not slander with his tongue
    and does no evil to his neighbor,
    nor takes up a reproach against his friend;
4   in whose eyes a vile person is despised,
    but who honors those who fear the LORD;
  who swears to his own hurt and does not change;
5   who does not put out his money at interest
    and does not take a bribe against the innocent.
  He who does these things shall never be moved.

A Psalm of David.

1 O LORD, who shall sojourn in your tent?
Who shall dwell on your holy hill?

1. Lord, who may dwell in your tent? (1)

David asks two poetically questions: 'Lord, who may dwell in your sacred tent? Who may live on your holy mountain?' The sacred tent and the holy mountain symbolize the presence of God. So the questions mean, 'Who is qualified to come to God's presence?' Or 'What is needed for me to be in God's presence?' The answer to these questions is very important to those who long for worshiping God and having a right relationship with him.

2. The answers to the questions (2-5)

The answers in verses 2-5a can be in four categories. 1) one who is blameless, does what is righteous, and speaks the truth; 2) one who does not slander and do wrong to others; 3) one who rejects the vile, honors those who fear God, and keeps an oath faithfully; 4) one who helps the needy freely without any string attached and rejects a bribe. These answers remind us of Jesus' life. We are to be sanctified by the Holy Spirit to live as Jesus did and to come to God's presence. And verse 5b says, 'Whoever does these things will never be shaken.'

Prayer: Lord, sanctify us to be holy and to build Christ-like character in us to serve others.
