Daily Bread

The Priesthood

Date: Dec. 16, 2024

Passage

Ezekiel 44:1-31 (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 44:3

Only the prince may sit in it to eat bread before the LORD. He shall enter by way of the vestibule of the gate, and shall go out by the same way.”

God gave Ezekiel directions for the priesthood. The prince refers to Jesus. He is able to go through the gate the Lord departed through. He will enter in and have fellowship with God. Jesus is the Heavenly Prince who freely goes in and out before God as our Great High Priest.

The priests were guilty of bringing uncircumcised people into the temple. They would suffer the consequences. But the descendants of Zadok protected the temple. They would bear the blessing of serving before God. They would teach people the difference between what is holy and what is not. God would be their inheritance.

Our sins have consequences, and we must suffer them. But praise God for sending Jesus to be the perfect high priest who has mercy on us and enables us to serve him as a holy nation and a kingdom of priests.

Prayer: Father, thank you for Jesus who is seated with you and grants us mercy. Help us to serve you freely, faithfully, and rightly.

One Word: A kingdom of priests to serve God
