God Reveals to Daniel the King’s Dream

Date: Feb. 8, 2025

Passage

Daniel 2:1-30 (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 2:23

To you, O God of my fathers,
    I give thanks and praise,
for you have given me wisdom and might,
and have now made known to me what we asked of you,
for you have made known to us the king’s matter.”

The great king of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar has a disturbing dream that deprives him of any sleep. Though he is very powerful, he is helpless before this dream. In his megalomania, he summons his astrologers and wise men in the middle of the night to tell him his dream and what it means. When they cannot, he orders the execution of all the wisemen in the kingdom, including Daniel and his friends.

When the commander of the guard comes to arrest Daniel, he answers with wisdom and tact. Then, by faith, he boldly goes to the king and asks for time. Though the king refused repeatedly the requests of the other astrologers, he listened to Daniel. It shows that servants who have the spirit of God have spiritual influence and protection. Do you believe this for yourself in your position?

Next, Daniel urged his friends to seek God’s mercy in prayer as a life and death matter in an impossible situation. Then, the dream and its meaning were revealed to Daniel. He praises God who has all wisdom and power and is full of light that reveals to his servants the mysteries of his sovereign will and purpose. When we seek his mercy, not only is our problem solved, but we see God’s plan in it.

Prayer: Father, please help me to seek your mercy earnestly in prayer and know your wisdom and power. Help me to trust your plan in all things.

One Word: God gives wisdom and power
