A Prayer of Distress

Date: Apr. 13, 2026

Passage

Psalm 22:1-31

Daily Bread

Key Verse: Psalm 22:1

David cries out in deep distress, feeling alone and abandoned in his time of suffering. He cries out to God, remembering his faithfulness to his servants in the past. Finally, he praises God who will have the final victory and foretells how all the nations will praise him.

This psalm also prophesied Christ's suffering on the cross in his most bitter moment when he bears all the sins of the world. At that moment, he feels forsaken by God. He is nailed to a cross and is surrounded by his gloating enemies. Helpless and abandoned, Jesus trusts in God’s faithfulness and ultimate victory over sin and death. Dying in our place, Jesus holds onto the hope of the final victory when he comes again, and all the nations will worship and bow before him.

In our suffering, when we feel abandoned and alone, let us look to our Savior Jesus on the cross. May we follow his example of trusting in God’s faithfulness and being assured of the final victory in Christ our Lord.

Prayer: Father, thank you for sending Jesus to bear all my sins on the cross and for showing me how to trust in you completely in my distress.

One Word: Trust in God’s faithfulness
