2 Chronicles 25:1-13 (ESV)
Key Verse: 25:8
First, Amaziah encouraged to seek God only (1-10). Amaziah's good point was revealed in dealing with his father's assassins: He listened to the word of the Lord and did not murder their children. Amaziah mustered all Judah for battle. He also hired mercenaries from Israel. There is no indication he sought God's will in this. But God had hope for him, and sent his servant with a word of God. God wanted him to discern between godly and ungodly, and to seek God's help for himself and his people. Although it cost a lot and brought bitter conflict with Israel, Amaziah listened to the man of God by faith.
Second, mixed results (11-13). Amaziah's victory over the Edomites was decisive and legendary (2Ki 14:7). But it was also unnecessarily bloodthirsty (12). The Israelites also raided Judah, killing thousands (13).
Prayer: Father, you have power to help and to overthrow. Help me to listen to you and trust your word today.
One Word: Listen to the word of the LORD
Acts 8:26-40
