Daily Bread

Bow in Worship

Date: Sep. 12, 2014

Passage

2 Chronicles 29:20-36 (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 29:28a

First, blood sacrifice atones for sin (20-26).

Hezekiah wasted no time, gathering the priests, Levites, and city officials early in the morning to present sin offerings and burnt offerings. Sin cannot be cleansed by human means. It requires God's forgiveness. The blood of the sacrifice atoned for their sin. They had to offer many animals. But Jesus Christ, our High Priest, sacrificed himself once for all, that all our sins may be forgiven and atoned for.

Second, the whole assembly bowed in worship (27-36). During the burnt offering, the Levites led the people in worship. With thankful and contrite hearts, they bowed down before the Lord. Their relationship with God was reconciled. God is our true object of worship, as our Creator, our Redeemer, and source of blessing. Hezekiah then invited anyone who wanted to give offerings. The restoration of the temple service brought great joy to the people.

Prayer: Father, thank you for Jesus' blood, shed to forgive my sins. Help me respond in worship today.
