Hezekiah Restores Levitical Priesthood

Date: Sep. 14, 2014

Passage

2 Chronicles 31:1-21 (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 31:2a

First, practical repentance (1). After remembering God's saving grace through the Passover, the people voluntarily removed all the idols. It was a practical expression of repentance.

Second, dedicated servants for temple service (2-21). The priests and Levites had no support to serve the temple ministry. This was not God's way. Hezekiah understood God's mind and heart in establishing the dedicated Levitical priesthood. Regular service in the temple required dedicated servants. Hezekiah organized them, and set the example by contributing from his own possessions. When ordered, the people gave the tithe of support. All were generously provided for, and the Levitical priesthood was restored to their temple service fully. Hezekiah prospered because he sought his God and worked wholeheartedly.

Prayer: Father, thank you for your servants. Please raise up leaders who seek you and work wholeheartedly.

One Word: Seek the Lord
