2 Chronicles 33:1-25 (ESV)
Key Verse: 33:13
First, Manasseh did evil in the eyes of the LORD (1-9). Manasseh followed the practices of the idol-worshipping Canaanites. He rebuilt the high places, and even sacrificed his children. He defiled the temple. He led his people to do more evil than those the LORD had destroyed before them. This aroused the anger of the LORD.
Second, Manasseh humbled by the LORD (10-25). The LORD did not ignore his people's sin. Nor did he destroy Manasseh, but disciplined him through the armies of Assyria, putting a hook in his nose. In distress Manasseh sought the favor of the LORD his God. He humbled himself greatly. God was moved by his humble prayer, and restored him. This grace of God opened Manasseh's eyes to know that the LORD is God. This truth transformed his life. Manasseh removed the idols, restored the altar and worshiped at the temple. But sin took root. Manasseh's own son Amon did evil, and was killed.
Prayer: Father, you are so merciful and patient with sinners. Help me repent quickly, and know you as LORD.
One Word: God's kindness leads us to repentance
