2 Chronicles 34:1-33 (ESV)
Key Verse: 34:3
First, Josiah purified the land and temple (1-13). Josiah, as a young boy, found a hero in David. Perhaps he loved the story of David and Goliath. As a teenager of 16, he began to seek the God of David. To do so, he put God first in his nation, systematically and completely uprooting idols and investing money, time and manpower toward rebuilding the temple. May God inspire many young people through godly heroes to seek God.
Second, Josiah renewed the covenant (14-33). When Josiah sought God, God revealed himself through the Bible. Josiah tore his robes and wept, seeing how they had failed to keep the covenant. Through a prophet Josiah received assurance of God’s favor on him personally, and confirmation of God’s punishment on the nation. Josiah served his people as a Bible teacher to renew the covenant. He was a shepherd king, just like David his father.
Prayer: Father, thank you that when we seek you we find you. Please raise up young people like Josiah.
One Word: Find God in his Word
