Nehemiah 10:1-39 (Skim 1-27)

First, they promised to follow God's Law (1-29). A list of 84 priests, Levites and leaders signed this binding written agreement to follow the Law of God given through Moses, together with their wives and children. It was a covenant renewal before God.
Second, practical promises and responsibilities (30-39). Obedience to God's word touches sensitive, important parts of a person's life: (1) no marriage of Gentiles (unbelievers); (2) no business on the Sabbath (God before money); (3) offerings and tithes for the service of the house of God. Offerings included material contributions for the support of the temple, and the dedication of time and of children to God. They promised to put God first in their lives-ahead of their own ideas or desires for marriage, money and family.
Prayer: Lord, I have decided to follow Jesus and your word. Help me to keep my decision and to give you first place in my heart and life.
