The Destiny of All Who Forget God

Date: Feb. 8, 2015

Passage

Job 8:1-22  (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 8:13

First, your beginning will seem humble, but your future will be prosperous (1-10). Bildad spoke out thinking that Job was in the wrong. He guessed that the Almighty who does not pervert justice punished Job's children for their sins. Even now if Job were to seek God earnestly and plead with the Almighty, God would restore him to be more prosperous than before. His advice for Job was to ask the former generations and learn from history.

Second, so perishes the hope of the godless (11-22). Bildad described the destiny of all who forget God like Papyrus with no marsh and reeds without water. They are like those who rely on a frail spider's web. They are like a well-watered plant that was torn from its spot. Its life withers away. All Bildad had said was true in some sense. However, his error was to apply his common sense to Job who was suffering not because of his direct sins.

Prayer: Lord, we wither away as soon as we are torn from you, the source of life. Thank you for restoring us through Jesus.

One Word: Jesus, our restoration
