Job 9:1-35 (ESV)
Key Verse: 9:33
First, he is the Maker (1-24). God's wisdom is profound and his power is vast. He is the Maker of mountains, waves of the sea, heavens and stars. He shakes the earth. He commands the sun to shine or not to shine. He is the Sovereign Lord to whom no mortal can say, "What are you doing?" Job admitted God's greatness while accepting that no human being can stand before God.
Second, he is not a mere mortal like me (25-35). Job recognizes how swift his days are and that they fly away like eagles swooping down on their prey. Even if he washed himself with soap, it would not be enough to stand before the holy God. God is not a mere mortal like us. Job concludes with a longing: "If only there were someone to mediate between us." The righteous Job's sigh is all mortals' groaning to look for the mediator, Jesus, our Messiah. Only He can remove God's rod by taking all our sins on his cross.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for answering Job's prayer in his agony by sending a mediator Jesus our Savior.
One Word: Jesus, the only Mediator.
Acts 8:26-40
