Job 15:1-35 (ESV)
Key Verse: 15:15
First, Eliphaz's 2nd rebuke (1-16). Eliphaz now lost patience. He forgot to show love and sympathy. He rebukes Job for ignoring their pious counseling out of his sin and pride. He seemed to have a monopoly on wisdom. But all mortals born of woman cannot be righteous. Even the heavens are not pure in God's eyes. Eliphaz was right but he didn't know Job who was in agony to know why God deals equally with the righteous as with the unrighteous.
Second, the destiny of the wicked (17-35). Eliphaz explained based on what he had seen; the wicked suffers torment all his days. Distress, anguish and troubles overwhelm him with terror giving birth to evil in the darkness. He shakes his fist at God defiantly charging against him. God will allow him no longer to be rich. The godless will be barren inhabiting ruined towns. Eliphaz meant that Job was suffering because he was an ungodly sinner. But he spoke based on his experiences rather than based on the word of God in dealing with Job's specific case.
Prayer: Lord, help me think and speak not based on my experiences but by the word of God. Help me put my hope in Jesus.
One Word: No hope in mortal man
Acts 9:1-19
