Job 16:1-22 (ESV)
Key Verse: 16:19b-20a
First, Job turned to God (1-14). Job's friends were miserable comforters with no encouragement but only accusations. So Job turned to God and poured out his pains yet was not relieved. Job felt that God had worn him out, devastated his entire household, assailed and tore him in his anger. God has turned him over to the ungodly and shattered him. God has made him his target. God rushed at him like a warrior. Job's words remind us of the cry of Jesus on the cross, "Eloi, Eloi, Lama Sabachthani!" (Why have you forsaken me?)
Second, even now my witness is in heaven (15-22). When Job could not understand why suddenly God treated him without pity, his face was red with weeping. Yet his hands prayed with a pure heart. One thing he was sure of was that his intercessor is in heaven, his advocate who pleads with God as one pleads for a friend, our Savior, Jesus Christ!
Prayer: Lord, truly no one can save us except our intercessor in heaven, Jesus.
One Word: Jesus, my intercessor, my friend
Acts 8:26-40
