Daily Bread

The Lord's Prayer

Date: Mar. 25, 2015

Passage

Matthew 6:9-15  (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 6:9

First, our Father in heaven (9-10). Jesus teaches us the content of prayer. We begin praying to our Father, coming to him freely. Our first desire is that his name be kept holy in our world by my lifestyle. Secondly, our desire is for his kingdom to come, meaning his rule and will be carried out in our lives, family, community and nation.

Second, forgive us our debts (11-15). Jesus teaches us to pray not only for ourselves, but for "our" daily bread - which are our daily needs. We also pray for our spiritual needs: forgiveness, God's leading out of temptation, and God's deliverance from the evil one. Jesus emphasized forgiving others in our prayer life. Forgiving others is closely related to receiving forgiveness from God. As we forgive others, we grow in the mind and heart of our forgiving Father, being like him.

Prayer: Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. Help me pray for and forgive others.

One Word: Your kingdom come
