Matthew 6:19-34 (ESV)
Key Verse: 6:33
First, store up treasures in heaven (19-24). What do you treasure? Jesus says our treasure reveals our heart. The eye is where light comes into our body. If we treasure money, our heart is dark. If we treasure God, his light shines. How can we store up treasure? Jesus says it is a matter of masters. Be devoted to God as our only master, and store up treasure by obeying our one master.
Second, do not worry (25-34). Everyone worries. When we don't worry, then we worry for not worrying. Jesus says do not worry. Why not? Jesus says we have a heavenly Father who provides for birds, and flowers, so how will he not provide for us? Instead of running after food and clothes like pagans, Jesus invites us to trust God's promise and seek his kingdom and righteousness first, one day at a time. God knows all our daily needs, and will provide accordingly.
Prayer: Father, Thank you for your promise. Help me seek you first, and store up treasure that pleases you.
One Word: trust and obey God
