Matthew 7:1-12 (ESV)
Key Verse: 7:12
First, do not judge (1-6). This is Jesus' command. We have no right to judge, as we are all subject to Jesus' judgment. Instead of judging others, first examine ourselves and remove the plank. Then with a spirit of repentance and humility, we should gently remove the speck in our brother's eye. To balance "do not judge," Jesus tells us to discern true character, and protect the gospel message.
Second, in everything, do to others (7-12). In community life we should not be selfish, but pray for the needs of others. Fathers don't give evil things to their children, but good things. How much more our God will give good things to those who ask him! In everything, do the good to others that we expect them to do to us, as God did first by giving us his only Son, Jesus Christ. This is the spirit of the Law and Prophets.
Prayer: Father, thank you for giving us the best gift. Help me love others first, as you loved me first.
One Word: Do good to others
Acts 7:39-60
