Matthew 7:13-29 (ESV)
Key Verse: 7:24
First, enter through the narrow gate (13-23). To conclude the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus contrasts between two directions of life. Jesus tells us to enter through the narrow gate that leads to life. We need to watch out for false prophets who lead us down the broad road to destruction.
Second, be a wise builder (24-29). Jesus wants us to consider our foundation. How can we be a wise builder? Jesus says we need to hear his words and put them into practice. It is not easy, as it requires digging down to rock for a strong foundation that is unseen. Foolish people skip this and focus on outward things. But when trouble comes, their lives crash terribly. Those who have a strong foundation by hearing and obeying Jesus' words endure to eternal life.
Prayer: Father, thank you for providing the road to life in Jesus. Help me listen and obey his word.
One Word: Put Jesus' word into practice
