Eliphaz's Reply

Date: Apr. 6, 2015

Passage

Job 22:1-30  (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 22:21

First, can a man be of benefit to God? (1-11). This third accusation of Eliphaz makes sense, since Job should not be proud of his blamelessness. Still Eliphaz was wrong judging Job as a great wicked man based on the sudden snares and perils around him. He assumed Job must be guilty by giving no water to the weary, withholding food from the hungry, sending widows away empty handed and breaking the strength of the fatherless. That was not true.

Second, submit to God and be at peace with him (12-30). Eliphaz insists that Job doesn't know the Almighty God and is against the just God. Therefore, he rebukes Job to repent, quitting his old life and submitting to God. Then God will lift him up to be prosperous. Eliphaz did not understand what God was doing. He didn't know Job either and only hurt him through his own assumption and common sense.

Prayer: Lord, help me to submit to you and have peace with you and with others. Help me not to accuse others.

One Word: Submit to God and be prosperous
