Job 30:1-31 (ESV)
Key Verse: 30:1a
First, men younger than I, mock me (1-19). When Job fell in troubles, even men younger than him, sons of disdain, base and nameless characters, mocked him. They did not hesitate to spit on his face. When God afflicted him, leaving him helpless and vulnerable, they quickly took advantage of his defenselessness. Terrors overwhelmed Job. His dignity was driven away. Now his life ebbed away while suffering day and night with gnawing pains. It seemed the Lord God threw him into the mud to reduce him to dust and ashes.
Second, the churning inside him never stops (20-31). Job suffered so severely but the most painful part was inner suffering. He longed for his fellowship with God to be restored but God didn't seem to answer. He searched but God did not meet him. He could not understand what God was doing. Job would die soon. This churning inside made his lyre tuned to mourning.
Prayer: Lord, in times of distress when we are discouraged, help us to remember that you are always with us as Immanuel!
One Word: God is with us in times of suffering
Revelation 17:1-18
