Job 31:1-40 (ESV)
Key Verse: 31:23
First, I made a covenant with my eyes (1-12). Job was a man of integrity. He lives before God who see his ways and counts his every step. He made a covenant with his eyes not to look lustfully at a young woman. He knew God would ruin the wicked with a disaster. He walked rightly and honestly. He did not lurk at his neighbor's door. For he knew it was a fire that burns to Destruction.
Second, for fear of his splendor (13-40). Job feared God. He sought justice for his servants' grievance against him. He believed that God created all men equal. He reared the fatherless, warmed the needy and guided the widow. He did not put his trust in gold, wealth, and the fortune he gained. His heart was not enticed by any idols, which would be unfaithfulness to God on high. He did not rejoice at his enemy's misfortune. His door was always open to strangers. He didn't hide guilt in his heart. He didn't misuse his land, cheat the tenants or the landlord. He completes his defense and signs it.
Prayer: Lord, how wonderful was Job's life before you! Teach me Job's integrity.
One Word: Fearing God leads to a holy life
