Job 32:1-22 (ESV)
Key Verse: 32:8
First, the spirit that gives understanding (1-9). When three friends were silenced by Job, Elihu the youngest spoke out. He made four speeches altogether (32-37). He was the only one God did not rebuke (42:7). He was angry with Job for justifying himself and not God. He was also angry with the three friends for not refuting Job and yet had condemned him. He kept quiet because he thought age should speak. However, he found that it is the spirit of the Almighty that gives wisdom rather than the old.
Second, the spirit within me compels me (10-22). But before he could speak, Elihu listened to their reasoning with full attention until he was full of words. Then the spirit within him compelled him. He became like bottled-up wine, like new wineskins ready to burst. His motive was not to gain any benefit for himself but for the glory of his Maker.
Prayer: Lord, it is your spirit that gives men understanding. Let me be filled with your words before I speak. Raise many young Elihus.
One Word: Speak by the spirit of the Almighty
