Genesis 37:12-36 (ESV)
Key Verse: 37:21
First, an evil plot to kill (12-24). Jacob sent Joseph to check up on his brothers grazing the flocks. They saw him coming and said, "Here comes that dreamer! Let's kill him!" Jealousy and hatred made them spiritually blind murderers. Reuben tried to rescue Joseph. They stripped Joseph's robe off and threw him into an empty cistern. Then they sat down to eat.
Second, an evil plot to sell (25-36). Judah suggested to sell Joseph as a slave to a caravan headed to Egypt. They got him out of their lives and made a profit at the same time. But they lied to their father, feigning a bloody death by a wild animal, causing great sorrow and weeping to their father. Their sin made them murderers, thieves and liars and caused so much grief. God wants us not to hate and lie, but to love and rescue.
Prayer: Lord, deliver us from our sins and our sinful ideas. Thank you for rescuing us from evil plots to be rescuers rather than liars and haters.
One Word: Rescued to be a rescuer
Revelation 17:1-18
