Matthew 13:24-20, 36-43 (ESV)
Key Verse: 13:43
First, good and bad seed grow together (24-30). Jesus compared the kingdom of heaven to a man who sowed good seed in his field. When no one noticed, the man's enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat. In due time, both wheat and weeds sprouted. The servants saw this and suggested that the weeds be pulled up. But the owner left them both to grow until the harvest. Pulling up the weeds could prematurely uproot the wheat. Likewise, God's children live in the world with the children of the devil. God's servants should not try to separate them now - God will do so at the end of the age.
Second, wheat and weeds separated (36-43). At the end of the age, Jesus will send out his angels to separate the wheat from the weeds. Everything that causes sin and those who do evil will be removed from Christ's kingdom. The weeds will be burned up in a blazing furnace. But the righteous will shine like the sun in God's kingdom.
Prayer: Lord, help me to grow as your child despite the evil in the world. Let me shine like the sun.
One Word: The righteous will shine like the sun
