Daily Bread

That You May Live in a Right Way

Date: Aug. 24, 2015

Passage

1 Corinthians 7:25-40  (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 7:35

First, the time is short (25-31). Paul instructed those in the church at Corinth to live in light of the gospel. There is always the temptation to become engrossed in the things of this world, things like marriage, emotional well-being or buying things to enhance this life. When we live in light of the gospel of Jesus we have a very different perspective-that of eternal life. Then we see that the time is short. Everything in this world is passing away.

Second, undivided devotion to the Lord (32-40). The concern over marriage was a huge question in Paul's day and within the Corinthian church. It can be a big question in our times as well. Paul wanted them to be free from concern. There is no sin in being married or unmarried. What is the right way? Whether married or unmarried the right way has to do with the Lord. In all things we can live in undivided devotion to the Lord, and be concerned not with our affairs, but with the Lord's affairs.

Prayer: Lord, free me from being consumed by the concerns of this life. Help me to live the right way-the life that is devoted to you.

One Word: Live the right way
