Psalm 20:1-9 (ESV)
Frist, may the Lord grant all your requests (1-5). These verses read like a kind of benediction in which David blesses his readers. "May the LORD answer you when you are in distress" (1a). We have distress mainly because we live in a fallen world. To whom can we go? Some choose a psychologist. But the best answer is going to God in prayer. God is our heavenly Father who answers us, protects us, supports us, grants the desires of our hearts, makes our plans succeed and gives us victory in prayer. These verses remind us of all the blessings we have as God's children. "May the Lord grant all your requests" (5b).
Second, we trust in the name of the Lord our God (6-9). David knew that the LORD was the one who really had given him all his victories (6). Some trust in fancy cars (chariots) or a nice home but we trust in the name of our God (7). There is nothing secure in this world. The only true security is in God. Those who trust in the world's treasures will stumble and fall but those who trust in God will rise up and stand firm (8). They are more than conquerors in Christ Jesus. May the Lord give you victory as you depend on him.
Prayer: Lord, the world is full of distress and insecurity. My security is in you alone. Grant victory to your church. In Jesus' name. Amen.
One Word: Trust in the LORD your God
